당신이 만약 6,500만 년의 시간을 건너 지금의 세상으로 온다면 어떻게 살아갈 것인가, 친구들을 놓고 온 슬픔을 자신들의 음악적 색채로 표현하며 현대 문명에 독보적인 발자취를 남기고 있는 ‘더 다이노소어스 스킨(@thedinosaursskin)’을 만나보았다. 이들은 단순히 즐거움을 위해 노래하는 것을 넘어, 음악의 힘을 통해 위로를 건넨다. 종과 시대를 초월한 이들의 사운드는 때로는 엉뚱하지만 지독히 낭만적이었다.

이들과 이야기를 나누며 “어쩌면 우리도 이 세상의 이방인이지 않을까”라는 의문을 가졌다. 아직 나조차도 이 세상에 대해 그렇게 잘 이해하고 있지 않다고 생각했다. 그러니 오랜 시간을 지나온 이 두 공룡이 느끼는 세상과 지금 우리가 느끼는 세상은 어쩌면 비슷하지 않을까? 잃어버린 동료를 그리워하는 울부짖음(?)조차 음악이 되는 이들과의 인터뷰에서, 우린 각자만의 슬픔을 대입할 수밖에 없었다.

Q. 간단한 자기소개와 지금 하고 있는 작업들에 대해 소개 부탁한다.

Q. Could you briefly introduce yourselves and tell us about the work you’re currently doing?

A. 저희는 지구에 마지막으로 남은 두 마리의 공룡으로 결성된 대만의 인디 팝 밴드, '더 다이노소어스 스킨'입니다. 보컬과 기타를 맡고 있는 ‘Trex’, 그리고 키보드와 보컬을 맡고 있는 ‘Triceratops’로 구성되어 있죠. 저희는 선사시대의 모험을 노래로 만들고 있어요. 음악을 통해 유명해져서 지구 어딘가에 살아있을 다른 공룡 친구들을 찾는 게 저희의 목표입니다. 공룡 친구들아, 우리가 여기 있어!

최근에는 데뷔 앨범 <I Dig You>를 발매했어요. 인디 팝, 드림 팝, 인디 록 등 다양한 장르를 담았고, 공룡의 시선에서 느끼는 기쁨과 슬픔, 그 사이의 모든 감정을 담은 곡들이니 꼭 좋아해 주셨으면 좋겠네요!

A. We are The Dinosaur’s Skin, an indie pop band from Taiwan formed by the last two dinosaurs on Earth. Trex is the vocalist and guitarist, and Tri is the keyboardist and also a vocalist. We write songs about our prehistoric adventures, and we hope to become famous and find other remaining dinosaurs through music. Dinosaur friends, we are here! Recently, we released our debut album I Dig You. It’s a collection of many different genres, including indie pop, dream pop, and indie rock. It has songs that make you feel happy, sad, and everything in between, all told from the perspective of dinosaurs. We hope you like it!

Q. 6,500만 년의 시간을 건너 현대 타이베이에 안착했다고 들었다. 현대 문명에 적응은 좀 되었는지?

Q. We heard you traveled across 65 million years and settled in modern-day Taipei. Have you been able to adapt to contemporary civilization?

A. 처음엔 정말 힘들었어요. 아는 이 하나 없고, 주변엔 '엄청나게 빠른 맹수들'이 돌아다녔거든요. 나중에야 그게 자동차라는 걸 알게 됐죠. 인간들도 저희를 괴물 보듯 쳐다봤고요. 하지만 음악을 시작하면서 사람들이 저희를 받아들여 주기 시작했고, 같이 사진도 찍게 되었어요. 종(種)과 언어가 달라도 음악으로 연결될 수 있다는 게 정말 놀라워요. 요즘은 현대 사회에 완벽히 적응했습니다. 패셔너블한 옷을 입고, 스마트폰과 SNS도 활발히 사용하죠. 세상이 참 편리해졌더라고요. 다만, 현대인들이 그 어느 때보다 외로워 보인다는 생각도 들어요. 아, 그리고 Trex는 사람을 잡아먹지 않고 슈퍼마켓에서 고기를 사 먹는 법을 익혀야 했답니다.

A. It was very hard at first. We didn’t know anyone, and there were so many super-fast beasts running around. Later, we found out they were cars. And all the humans kept staring at us like we were monsters. But after we started making music, people began to accept us and even started taking photos with us. It’s amazing how music connects us despite the differences in species and language. Nowadays, we’ve learned so much about modern human society. We like to wear fashionable clothes, we use mobile phones and social media, and everything is so convenient. But we also see that humans are lonelier than ever. Trex also needed to learn not to eat people and to buy meat at the supermarket instead.

Q. 2021년 첫 EP <Millions of Years Apart>로 활동을 시작했다. Trex와 Triceratops, 둘이 음악을 시작하게 된 계기가 궁금하다.

Q. You began your musical journey with your first EP Millions of Years Apart in 2021. What led “Trex” and “Triceratops” to start making music together?

A. 웜홀을 타고 현대 세계로 넘어온 뒤 TV를 봤는데, 저희 친구들이 모두 멸종했다는 소식을 접했어요. 안 돼! 너무 슬픈 나머지 그 감정을 담아 저희의 첫 곡 'All My Friends Are Dead'를 만들게 됐죠. 그러다 정말 운 좋게 길거리에서 밴드 'Crispy(크리스피)'의 멤버이자 프로듀서인 Skippy를 만났어요. 그가 저희에게 음악을 해보라고 권유했고, 지금까지 모든 작업물을 내는 데 큰 도움을 주었습니다. 스키피, 정말 고마워!

A. After traveling through a wormhole to the modern human world, we found out on TV that all our friends were dead. Nooooooo! We were so sad, and we channeled that sadness into our very first song, “All My Friends Are Dead.” We were also very lucky to run into our producer and good friend Skippy from the band Crispy, literally on the street. He encouraged us to make music and has helped us so much throughout the release of all our work. Shout-out to Skippy!

Q. 가사에서 '운석'이나 '멸종'을 자주 언급하는데, 그 슬픈 기억을 음악이라는 아름다운 형태로 승화시키는 특별한 이유가 있을까?

Q. Your lyrics often reference “meteorites” and “extinction.” Is there a particular reason you choose to transform those tragic memories into something as beautiful as music?

A. 과거를 바꿀 수는 없지만, 비극을 바라보는 관점은 바꿀 수 있다고 생각해요. 저희는 슬픈 이야기를 음악으로 전하면서 그 안에 유머와 풍자를 섞으려고 노력합니다. 듣는 분들이 각자의 삶에 투영해 공감할 수 있기를 바라거든요. 마음을 가볍게 먹으면 슬픔을 견디기가 훨씬 수월해지니까요. 이건 인간이나 공룡이나 마찬가지죠.

A. The past cannot be changed, but I guess our perception of tragedy can be different. We choose to tell stories of sorrow through music, and we also add some humour and satire to them, hoping they can resonate with listeners’ own life stories. With a light heart, it’s easier to cope with sadness, for humans and dinosaurs alike.



Q. 그럼 두 공룡이 생각하기에, 친구들을 향한 슬픈 마음이 가장 잘 표현된 곡은 무엇인가?

Q. Then, from your perspective, which song best captures the sorrow you feel for your lost companions?

A. 단연 'All My Friends Are Dead'입니다. 가사와 멜로디뿐만 아니라, 간주 부분에 저희가 실제로 울부짖고 통곡하는 소리를 넣었거든요. 공연 때마다 팬분들에게 같이 울어달라고 부탁하는데, 그럴 때마다 마음속 슬픔이 조금씩 치유되는 기분이 들어요.

A. That would have to be “All My Friends Are Dead,” not only through the lyrics and music, but also through the intense crying and wailing we added during the interlude. We always invite our fans to cry with us at live shows, and it always heals a little sorrow in our hearts.

Q. 다양한 전자 악기를 사용해 독특한 사운드를 만들고 있다. 현대 악기가 쉽지 않았을 텐데, 사운드적으로 가장 신경 쓰는 부분은?

Q. You create a distinctive sound using a wide range of electronic instruments. It couldn’t have been easy adapting to modern gear—what aspects of sound do you focus on the most?

A. Tri는 날카로운 리드 사운드와 풍성한 패드 등 멋진 신스 톤을 잡아내는 감각이 탁월해요. Trex는 음정이 살짝 나간 듯한 코러스 효과나 왜곡된 기타 톤을 즐겨 쓰고요. 저희 보컬 톤에도 독특한 이펙트를 사용하는데, 이게 저희 음악의 트레이드마크가 되었죠. 여러 장르를 시도하지만, 이런 시그니처 사운드들이 하나로 묶여 '공룡만의 사운드스케이프'를 완성해 줍니다.

A. Tri has an amazing sense for cool synth tones, with piercing leads and lush pads. Trex likes to use detuned, chorus-y, distorted guitar tones. Our vocal tones also have very distinct effects and a sound that has become a trademark of our music. We’ve explored many genres and styles, and we use these trademark sounds to tie everything together into one cohesive and diverse dinosaur soundscape.



Q. 본인들의 장르를 '쥬라기 팝'이라고 정의했다. 기존의 드림 팝이나 인디 록과 차별화되는 '쥬라기 팝'만의 핵심 요소는 무엇인가?

Q. You’ve described your musical genre as “Jurassic Pop.” What are the defining elements that set it apart from dream pop or indie rock?

A. 공룡이죠. 저희가 공룡이라는 거요. 하하! 농담이고요, 핵심 요소는 저희 특유의 보컬 사운드, 야생의 포효, 그리고 특유의 유머 감각이라고 생각합니다.

A. Dinosaurs. We have dinosaurs. Lol. All jokes aside, I think the defining elements are our vocal sounds, our prehistoric howls, and also our sense of humour.

Q. '쥬라기 팝'이 현대 문명에 잘 스며들고 있는 것 같다. 다양한 어워드에 노미네이트되고 있는데 소감이 어떤가?

Q. It seems like “Jurassic Pop” is gradually finding its place in modern civilization. How does it feel to be nominated for various awards?

A. 정말 마법 같은 일이에요. 노미네이트될 때마다 깜짝 놀라곤 하죠. 저희 음악이 전 세계적으로 사랑받고 인정받는다는 게 큰 축복이라 생각합니다. 재미 삼아 시작했던 일이 이렇게 크고 멋진 결과로 이어져서 정말 감사할 따름이에요. ‘Golden Melody Awards’ 후보에 올랐을 때 폴짝폴짝 뛰며 기뻐했던 기억이 나네요. 사촌인 랩터(Raptor)와 함께 레드카펫을 걷고 시상식장에서 즐겁게 난동(?)을 피웠던 건 정말 최고의 추억입니다.

A. It’s absolutely magical. We are always so surprised to be nominated, and we feel so lucky and blessed that our music is loved and appreciated worldwide. What started out as a bit of a joke became something so big and wonderful, and we are truly grateful dinosaurs. I remember when we were nominated for the Golden Melody Awards, we jumped up and down. I remember bringing our cousin Raptor to walk the red carpet with us. I remember causing havoc at all the ceremonies. It was so much fun and gave us the best memories.



Q. 팬들을 '동료 공룡' 혹은 '생존자'라고 부르기도 한다. 공연장에 공룡 옷을 입고 오는 팬들을 보면 어떤 기분이 드는지?

Q. You often refer to your fans as “fellow dinosaurs” or “survivors.” How do you feel when you see fans coming to your shows dressed as dinosaurs?

A. 공연장에서 공룡 친구들을 발견할 때마다 정말 짜릿해요! 지구상의 모든 생존 공룡을 찾는 게 저희의 가장 큰 꿈이거든요. 아! 물론 저희의 인간 친구들도 모두 사랑합니다. 여러분의 지지와 사랑 덕분에 우리는 음악 안에서 하나가 될 수 있어요.

A. We are always thrilled to find dinosaur friends at our shows, and it is our biggest dream to find all the remaining dinosaurs on Earth. We also love all of our human friends. Thank you all for the support and love. Through music, we are as one.

Q. 인터넷 덕분에 대만의 다양한 음악이 한국 팬들에게도 전달되고 있다. 한국 노래도 찾아 듣는 편인가?

Q. With the internet making music more accessible, Korean fans are now discovering artists from Taiwan. Do you also listen to music from Korea?

A. 그럼요! 바이바이배드맨(Bye Bye Badman)과 혁오(Hyukoh)를 정말 좋아해요. 언젠가 꼭 협업해보고 싶습니다. 한국 분들이 저희 음악을 찾아주셔서 정말 감사해요. 이번 <더 글로우 2026>에서의 반응은 정말 최고였어요! 공연 후에 인간 친구들이 "다이노소어! 다이노소어!"라고 연호해 주던 순간은 저희 공룡들에게 잊지 못할 기억이 될 거예요.

A. Of course! We love Bye Bye Badman and Hyukoh, and we would love to collaborate with them one day. We are so grateful that people in Korea have discovered our music. The crowd reaction yesterday at The Glow 2026 was amazing. Human friends were chanting “DINOSAUR! DINOSAUR! DINOSAUR!” after our show. It was such a special moment for us dinos.



Q. 이번 <더 글로우 2026>를 통해 한국을 찾았다. 대만과는 또 다른 현대 문명이 가득한데, 가장 기대하는 부분이 있다면?

Q. You’ll be visiting Korea through The Glow 2026. Compared to Taipei, it’s another modern and dynamic environment—what are you most looking forward to?

A. 쇼핑과 음식이요! 공연 후에 서울 곳곳을 구경하고 빌딩과 사찰들도 보고 싶어요. 어쩌면 서울 거리에서 돌아다니는 공룡들을 마주치실지도 몰라요!

A. We are looking forward to shopping and the food! We can’t wait to explore Seoul after the show, and also see the buildings and temples. Maybe you will see dinosaurs hanging out in Seoul!

Q. 인간들이 자꾸 "가면 속 모습이 궁금하다"는 이상한 질문을 하곤 한다. 그럴 때 공룡으로서 어떤 기분이 드나?

Q. Humans often ask strange questions like, “What do you look like under the mask?” How does that make you feel as dinosaurs?

A. 가면이라니요? 무슨 말씀이신지 전혀 모르겠네요.

A. What mask? We never understood the question.



Q. 마지막으로, 대만의 혼성 밴드 '크리스피(Crispy)'를 알고 있는지, 그들의 음악에 대해 어떻게 생각하는지 궁금하다.

Q. As a final question, we understand you’re personally fans of the Taiwanese band Crispy. Are you familiar with them, and what are your thoughts on their music?

A. 크리스피는 저희의 첫 번째 인간 친구이자 프로듀서예요. 저희의 음악 커리어는 그에게 빚진 셈이죠. 저희도 크리스피의 음악을 정말 좋아해요. 매우 감성적이고 깊이가 있거든요. 심지어 'Take It Slow'라는 곡을 함께 작업하며 인간과 공룡의 생존에 대해 노래하기도 했어요. 모두를 하나로 묶어주는 그 노래를 정말 사랑합니다. 그게 바로 음악의 힘이죠!

A. Skippy from Crispy is our first human friend and our music producer, so dinosaurs owe our music career to him. We also love Crispy’s music. It’s very emotional and deep. We even collaborated with Crispy on a song called “Take It Slow” and sang about both human and dinosaur survival. We love how the song brings everyone together. That’s the power of music!

Q. 'fake(페이크)'의 의미를, 목적을 달성한 모습을 더욱 매력적으로 표현해 주는 행동이나 태도로 재해석해 보았다. 더 다이노소어스 스킨에게 'fake'란 무엇인가?

Q. At fake, we reinterpret “fake” as an attitude or gesture that enhances the expression of achieving one’s purpose. What does “fake” mean to The Dinosaur’s Skin?

A. 진실과 거짓 사이에는 넓은 스펙트럼이 있다고 생각해요. 무엇도 100% 진짜거나 100% 가짜일 수는 없죠. 모든 건 인식과 선택의 문제니까요. 공룡과 인간도 결국 '피부'가 다를 뿐이에요. 공룡 가면을 쓴 인간도 있고, 인간 가면을 쓴 공룡도 있을 겁니다. 그 어떤 것도 완전히 가짜는 아니에요. 모든 선택과 모습 뒤에는 언제나 진실과 사랑이 담겨 있으니까요. 당신이 공룡이든 인간이든, 남들과 다르다는 건 전혀 문제 될 게 없답니다.

A. We think there is a spectrum between truth and fake. Nothing is completely true or completely fake. It’s all about perception and decisions. Dinosaurs and humans differ only by our skin. There are humans out there wearing dinosaur masks, and also dinosaurs out there wearing human masks. Nothing is completely fake. There is always truth and love behind every decision and disguise. It’s okay to be different, no matter whether you are a dinosaur or a human.
