자멸의 여정으로 마주하는 진심, 단편영화 <Miss World>

지난 17일 ‘나우니스 아시아(@nownessasia)’를 통해 공개된 대만 출신의 영화 제작자 ‘조지아 푸(@notgeorgia)’의 단편 영화 <미스 월드>는 사회적 죄악들을 행하며 완전하게 망가져 자멸해가는 여성의 삶을 통해 아버지의 투옥이라는 문제에 대처하는 여성의 이야기를 담아냈다.

영화 속에서 주인공은 엄청난 고통 속에서 스스로를 갉아먹으며 살아가고 아버지와의 의사소통의 문제들로 나타나는 결과들을 조명한다. 부모로부터 받은 무조건적인 사랑과 이타적 행동들로 마무리되는 이 영화는 블랙코미디 특유의 경쾌함과 비극적 상황들의 대비로 더욱 강렬하게 다가온다.

On the 17th, Taiwanese filmmaker Georgia Fu’s (@notgeorgia) short film Miss World was released through Nowness Asia (@nownessasia). The film tells the story of a woman coping with her father’s imprisonment by depicting the life of a woman who completely self-destructs through acts of social transgression.

In the film, the protagonist lives in immense pain, slowly consuming herself, while highlighting the consequences of communication breakdowns with her father. Ending with the unconditional love and selfless actions she receives from her parents, the film’s blend of black comedy’s lightheartedness with tragic situations creates an even stronger impact.

Inspired by the late filmmaker Georgia Fu’s real-life father, who was imprisoned for bank fraud, the film intricately weaves her personal experiences into the character, allowing for a more delicate and vivid expression of emotions.
